Welcome Back Event
Our Welcome Back Event here at Albany High was a wonderful way to get ready for the new school year! A huge thank you to the Regional Food Bank as well, who helped us give out hundreds of bags of food to our families! Students also enjoyed shopping for free first-day outfits in the Falcon Market, as well as free haircuts, so they can start the year with confidence and style. of the festivities on our Facebook page.
Welcoming the Class of 2030
Our staff, faculty, administrators and community leaders welcomed the Class of 2030 to Albany High this morning on their first day of high school!
Grade 9 students enjoyed an exciting opening assembly and heard words of encouragement from Senator Pat Fahy, Deputy Mayor Christopher Ellis, Executive Director of the Red Bookshelf Paul "Batman" Collins-Hakcett and Albany High Principal Jodi Commerford. DJ TGIF brought some incredible energy, along with our very own Falcon cheerleaders.

CDTA information
Students who live 1.5 miles or more from school are eligible to ride CDTA for free.
Eligible students will have their student IDs activated and can use them to ride any CDTA bus, including CDTA tripper buses that run direct routes to and from Albany High. We strongly encourage all eligible students to take advantage of the CDTA trippers, especially for the ride home at the end of the school day. Visit our Transportation page for CDTA bus schedules and route maps.
Please note that CDTA allows a grace period at the start of each school year, when all students are allowed to ride free. Starting Monday, Sept. 21, students without an activated ID must pay CDTA’s regular fare.
Albany High Spirit Team tryouts
Albany Athletics is thrilled to announce a new fall sport — the Albany High spirit team! City School District of Albany students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate, and tryouts will take place on Friday, Sept. 11, from 3:45-6 p.m. in the dance studio (room 3132) at Albany High. Fall sports season is heating up!
We've had an awesome start to the fall sports season here at Albany High! Here are some highlights and important details for our student-athletes:
- Albany High hosted its of the 2026-27 season at The Nest on Tuesday evening as our boys' soccer team faced off against Schalmont! Our Falcons delivered a thrilling win, defeating the Sabres 4-0!
- Our Albany High girls' tennis team faced off against Guilderland in their on Wednesday evening here at The Nest! Despite the hard-fought loss, our Falcons finished the evening with their heads high, knowing they represented our school with pride.

Sign up for the PSAT
Albany High School will administer the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) during the school day on Friday, Oct. 23, starting at 7:45 a.m. in the main gymnasium. Any student who is a sophomore or junior during the 2026–27 school year may take the test. Visit our event calendar for additional information, including details on how to register for the test.

We are counting the days until Albany High School's Homecoming Weekend, which will take place Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3!

Falcons' Best Dance Crew
Do you have what it takes to be Albany High’s best dance crew? Join us for a one-of-a-kind dance competition this October to showcase your moves and compete for a cash prize! Participation is free and open to all Albany High students that will be in grades 9-12 for the 2026-27 school year.

Welcome back, Falcons!
On Thursday, Sept. 3, we will celebrate the start of the new school year with our Welcome Back Event, which will run from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.!
All students in grades 9-12 are invited to stop by between 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. to pick up everything they need for their first day of school, including Chromebooks, IDs, schedules and locker assignments.

The first day of the 2026-27 school year is Friday, Sept. 4!
- Grade 9: entry, schedule distribution and breakfast will take place from 8-8:30 a.m., and the first day programming will run from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Grades 10-12: students will attend from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Summer Graduation 2026

Albany High hosts first Talent & Workforce Roundtable
New York is redesigning what it means to graduate from high school, and the City School District of Albany is proud to lead the way in fostering important conversations amongst leaders in education, business and workforce development to ensure that students are set up for success and have the competencies they need to thrive in college, careers and civic life.
On Thursday, Albany High School hosted an Albany Talent & Workforce Roundtable as part of the district's Leadership Week activities. All district administrators, teachers and school support staff from throughout the district, and students from Albany High took part in a morning-long program that included panel discussions and breakout sessions.
