Class of 2026, this coming week is the last chance to get your senior portraits taken here at Albany High. Appointments will be available Monday, Dec. 15–Friday, Dec. 19 and are on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage seniors to book their session as soon as possible to get their preferred date and time.

Congrats to our fall scholar-athletes!
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has announced its fall scholar-athlete individuals and teams.
We are thrilled to share the wonderful news that 97 student-athletes who play for Albany Athletics at the high school level had a 90 or above grade-point average and will receive pins for their scholastic achievements!
Additionally, seven of our fall teams earned the Scholar-Athlete Team Award, with the average GPA of the top 75% of the roster being 90 or greater.

December Spirit Week
Get ready for some festive fun this coming week as we celebrate December Spirit Week at Albany High! Our Student Government has created themes that will make our last full week of classes in 2025 extra merry and bright. Spread some joy with your creative attire and show us that Falcon pride!

Our next Parent Teacher Student Association meeting will be held on Jan. 27. The December meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16 is canceled.

Winter sports are heating up

On the basketball court, Albany High senior Sincere Allah was nominated for Times Union athlete of the week for boys' sports. Sincere poured in 32 points in a narrow loss to Beacon on Saturday, tying a school record with eight 3-pointers. He shot an incredible 8-for-12 from long distance to equal the school record for made 3s set by Isaiah Austin in 2022. Learn more by checking out this news story.

Mandatory Ski Club Meeting: Monday, Dec. 15
Falcons, if you signed up to hit the slopes with the Albany High Ski Club this winter, please make sure to attend the mandatory meeting on Monday, Dec. 15 at 3:30 p.m. in room 1311. If you are unable to attend, please reach out to Mr. Vacanti at tvacanti@albany.k12.ny.us or at (518) 290-6613. Students who have not yet signed up for ski club, but are still interested in participating, are welcome to attend as we still have some spots available.

As we approach the new year, we are excited invite you to save the date for our Curriculum Night at Albany High, which will take place on Jan. 7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Curriculum Night is an exciting evening designed to highlight all of the amazing course offerings we have at Albany High for our students currently in grades 8-11. The goal of this gathering is to support our families as students prepare to work with their guidance counselors to create their schedule for the coming academic year, keeping in mind post-secondary college/career plans.

New security procedures start Dec. 10
Over the past several weeks, we have shared information about new walk-through and bag scanners that will be installed at Albany High, as well as presentations to answer questions and address concerns. We appreciate your support and partnership as we continue to work together to ensure a positive and safe learning environment for everyone in our school community.

Photo re-take day: Monday, Dec. 8
Attention families of students in grades 9-11! If your student missed their photo session or needs a re-take, they can get their photo taken on Monday, Dec. 8.

Songs of the season
Wintertime brings lots of wonderful opportunities to enjoy beautiful music performed by our Falcon musicians. Be sure to check out these upcoming performances:
- The Albanettes and Troubadours will perform at the City of Albany Annual Holiday Tree Lighting at Academy Park on Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. Be sure to grab some !
- The B Flats will perform at the Pine Hills library from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 for an art exhibition opening.
- Our second winter concert will be held at Albany High on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. and will feature our string orchestra, symphonic band and vocal music.

Seeking volunteers for the concessions stand
Winter sports season has kicked off, and we are pumped for lots of exciting home games here at The Nest! The Albany Booster Club is seeking volunteers to help with our concessions stand at home games. Student and adult volunteers are welcome. This is a great opportunity for students to earn volunteer hours towards their honor cords.

On Wednesday, our Albany High Barbering III students welcomed a very special guest: New York Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley! Stay cozy with a free winter coat!
Thanks to the City of Albany's Cash for Coats program, we've been able to distribute lots of cozy winter coats to our Falcons this past week. If your student needs a winter coat, hat and/or gloves, please have them stop by the school store before school or during their lunch period. Free coats will also be available in our Falcon Boutique (room 3314), which is open Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m. and Friday from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
