The City School District of Albany Board of Education has appointed longtime district administrator Ken Cioffi to serve as the interim assistant superintendent for secondary instruction following Lori McKenna’s retirement at the end of March.

Cioffi will begin in that role April 1 and serve through the end of the school year. At this time, we anticipate a July 1 appointment for McKenna's permanent replacement.

Cioffi has served the district in a number of interim roles since his retirement from the Cabinet-level position of chief information officer in 2012. Most recently, he served as the interim assistant superintendent for elementary instruction from September 2023 through March 2024.

His recent assignments in the district also have included facilities director, supervising the Albany High School construction project, and administrative positions in the Human Resources Division. Cioffi also served as the assistant superintendent for secondary instruction in 2016 prior to McKenna’s appointment.

Cioffi currently serves as a mentor for administrators with CASDA – the Capital Area School Development Association.
